Ever wanted to try indigo dyeing? This workshop explores the use of a natural indigo from India and how we can dye different fabrics in the vat and make various patterns on our fabric using a Shibori techniques! A step up from tie dyeing, like many of us played around with at school, this form of natural dyeing creates stunning results. During the morning you will learn how to set up your own indigo vat, while this is developing we will tie several pieces of fabric in different shibori techniques, these we will then dye as our sampler pieces. You can then choose your favourite shibori pattern and hand dye a large cotton scarf or cushion cover. After lunch you will get the chance to have a go at Indian block printing and print an indigo-dyed fabric item.
Materials included in the workshop:
-Practice fabric for testing Shibori techniques
-Scarf or Cushion for final dye piece
-Indigo dyed fabric to practice block printing onto
-Piece of dyed fabric to block print (scarf/ cushion cover/ tote bag)
